Why Have Highlights Or Lowlights?

Highlights or lowlights are ideal if you want to give your hair a bit of a colour boost. They’re also a great way to colour your hair for the first time as you retain some of your natural shade too.

Highlights & lowlights are perfect for lighting up the face – illuminating and injecting life into your hair colour can work wonders for your skin tone!

Lowlights and highlights aren’t the same as streaks, which can also be applied using foils. Streaks have a larger effect on the hair than lowlights and highlights and are much more noticeable – the benefit of highlights and lowlights is that they have a natural sun-kissed finish.

Lowlights vs Highlights

Lowlights involve darkening strands of hair by using colours that are darker than your natural colour. They aim to add depth and dimension to your hair colour, whilst also making your hair look thicker!

In contrast, highlights use hair colours that are approximately 3 shades lighter than your natural shade. The aim of highlights is to bring up the overall colour of your hair, whilst softening the look of your hair colour.

What Are Babylights?

Babylights are delicate highlights created using a very fine hair colour technique to mimic the subtle, dimensional hair colour seen on children’s hair. Babylights are very natural looking and low maintenance.

Babylights work very well on fine hair, where more obvious colouring techniques may look too chunky. Babylights can be applied to any hair colour or length of hair. They are a great way to introduce colour to your hair in a subtle way.

The highlights should be fine around the hairline and natural parting, with a soft graduation of colour that is lighter at the ends.

What Is Balayage?

Balayage is a French word that means ‘to sweep.’ In this technique, the dye is swept or painted onto sections of your hair in a freehand manner. The hair colour is applied from the mid shafts to the ends of the hair, with a few highlights applied through the roots.

Balayage tends to be a few shades lighter than your base colour, although we can also add fashion hair colours to the lengths of the hair. Balayage hair colour adds depth and dimension to your hair colour in a natural-looking sun-kissed way.
